Gold 2025 was an international scientific conference held in May 2025 in San Sebastián, Spain, focusing on the latest advances in gold-related research and applications. Organized with the help of leading experts including our very own Dr. Leonardo Scarabelli, the event brought together over 350 researchers to discuss topics such as gold nanoparticles, catalysis, plasmonics, biomedical uses, electronics, and sustainable recycling. The conference highlighted cutting-edge developments in both fundamental science and technological innovations involving gold, fostering global collaboration across multiple disciplines.

NanoODDLAB Group Contributions

Poster sessions

At Gold 2025, our group showcased exciting progress in in situ growth methods—central to NanoODDLAB’s research. Alma’s poster, “Chemical Contrast In Situ Growth for the Fabrication of Multimetallic Metasurfaces,” highlighted new techniques for patterned metal nanostructures. Serena shared “Systematic Study for the Preparation of Nanoparticle-Functionalized Surfaces Exploiting Polydopamine,” advancing the versatility of our in situ nanopatterning strategy. Pau presented “Light-Controlled In Situ Growth of Plasmonic Metamaterials,” exploring the high-quality optical properties of the prepared substrates.

Finally, Nineli presented “In Situ Engineering of Functional Substrates for Plasmonic Nanostructure Growth,” focusing on phase-shifting materials and self-assembly—contributing to the branch of our group dedicated to exploring metamaterials with unique light–matter interactions.

We also extend a “big thank” you to Simone and Charlène, who worked non-stop to ensure a smooth event and rich Q&A sessions.

After the conference

After the conference, the NanoODDLAB group took the opportunity to explore some of San Sebastián’s iconic sights and capped off the experience with a festive meal at one of the city’s renowned cider houses.
