Discover Plasmonics with NanoODDLAB at the University of Cantabria Summer Courses 2025

This summer, the NanoODDLAB at the University of Cantabria will host a workshop titled Plasmonics: Fundamentals and Applications, as part of the university’s annual Summer Courses program, running from June 18 to August 27, 2025, across various locations in Cantabria. The NanoODDLAB Workshop will take place from July 21 to 23 in Suances, introducing participants to the fundamentals of plasmonics and highlighting recent advances in the field.

Whether you are a student, early-career researcher, or simply curious about the science of light–matter interaction at the nanoscale, this is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of a rapidly evolving research area. The workshop offers direct engagement with leading scientists in plasmonics, along with insights into the broader impact of nanophotonics on science and technology.

Course Objectives

Nanotechnology offers unprecedented potential to address critical global challenges. Among its many branches, plasmonics has emerged as one of the most dynamic and multidisciplinary, with far-reaching applications across physics, materials science, biology, and medicine. This course provides a panoramic view of the field, covering:

  1. Theoretical foundations of plasmonic resonances and their properties.
  2. How plasmonic structures influence light–matter interactions and surrounding physico-chemical environments.
  3. Practical applications of these effects in areas such as medicine, catalysis, and energy production.

The course is aimed at undergraduate, master’s, and PhD students in chemistry, physics, materials science, and nanofabrication, as well as professionals in nanotechnology.

Program updates

Unfortunately, Prof. E. Cortes will not be able to join us for the workshop. However, we are fortunate that our own Dr. C. Brissaud has agreed to fill his spot for the session on Plasmonics Catalysis.
